Hi,
Here are our notes from today's meeting. Feel free to edit away.
Bill
Meeting Notes for the C3 community meeting, 4/6/07
Bill shared some discussion notes to begin the meeting:
Our discussion was wide-ranging, but some highlights included:
We need to establish a process for both learning about, developing and propogating C3 practices and tools.
We may want to be mindful of the distinction between a "community of practice" and a "community for practice" The former tends toward prescribing best practice within a group or organization and the latter tends toward a shared process of trial-and-error to see what works best within the organization.
Our charge involves much more than IT-related tools, we need to look at other C3 aspects such as meetings and how they are used, lounges that may invite more communication, retreats, etc.
We need to look at ways to reduce or at least change the nature of our dependence on external units such as ILC, which can add constraints and limit how we connect to each other and our students.
Some conclusions and decisions:
1. Mark volunteered to handle the coordination of course creation requests for Moodle and BB this term. However, we hope to eliminate this function in future by requesting ILC to set up a system that would allow all ELP teachers to directly create their own courses. This may be best dealt with by getting ILC to create a metacourse with all ELP teachers able to create sub-courses within it. We will work with Kobayashi-san and Tomita-san on this.
2. We will explore the idea of the C3 members undertaking a sort of self-study course based on a "23 things" model that Owen will share with us.
3. Bill agreed to set up (with Owens guidance) a preliminary communication protocol for C3 that we can use for the distribution of meeting notes and other documents. The idea is to create a C3 blog as well as a C3 group in Googlegroups. This will allow any emails sent to the C3 group to go to each member as well as get posted on the blog. The blog will be available as a record of our work that we and others in the ELP can refer to. An added feature is that by using Google docs and spreadsheets to create documents they can be up-dated by anyone in the group. Therefore, please feel free to edit and correct, these notes as part of that functionality.
4. We all agreed to make an attempt to share our calendars to see what issues that raises.
---Bill shared some discussion notes to begin the meeting:

Additional considerations:
- Moodle/blackboard management.
- Calendaring and meeting room reservations
- Teachers Site including student photos
