The SplashCast service enables anyone to create streaming media 'channels' that mix together video, music, photos, narration, text, as well as RSS feeds, PowerPoint presentations and PDF documents. These user-generated channels can be played and easily syndicated on any web site, blog, or social network page. When channel owners modify their channel, their content is automatically updated across all the web pages 'tuned' to that channel.

What I really like about this service is that once all students have their own PLE (a blog, say) they can subscribe to the ELP channel and get automatic updates to their blog of everything the ELP publishes (teachers and students?). Until then, the NP video can be embedded in the ELP students' website and students can watch the streamed channel and/or download it to their video or audio-only ipod (or other) for viewing/listening on demand.

Yaji-san has communicated to me that there have been some problems using the recording equipment provided by ILC for making MP3 files of NP lectures.  Currently we record on both cassette audio tape and an MP3 machine borrowed from ILC.   As I understand it, Sylvan has suggested that we use an iPOD instead and plans to test this out on a borrowed iPOD next time.  The system now is that  MP3 files are posted on the ELP website for students to download and the cassette tapes are made available through ILC for students who want that format.

My question is whether there are any other ways we should consider making this kind of material available to students. For example, would it be better to stream the lectures rather than having students download them?  Would digital video recording (and streaming) be possible? 

Any thoughts on this?
