Re: Minutes 9-21-07

Hello all,

It seems that Fridays at 8:30 will work best for most people, so I will
propose Friday, Oct 5th for our next meeting. Please let me know if you
can't meet then. Perhaps we should meet in my office to have a computer
accessible.

Thanks,

Bill

C3 minutes from 9/21/07

Our agenda was:

1. 23 things updates
2. W3 site possibility for internal ELP communications, especially grade posting for students
3. icuelp domain google services suite -- what next?
4. Firefox and Teachers site wiki for office hours
5. Calendaring
6. Survey of equipment needs - e.g. tape vs Mp3
7. Better communication with ILC -- invite to C3 meetings?

We didn’t complete any of these items. We did discuss how to move forward on establishing basics of C3 practice, which would be preferable to scattered and ad hoc fixes. To do this we we still need to address some major issues:

  1. How to work with/around ILC policies.
  2. How to ground our future ELP communication, collaboration and connectivity in the most efficient and effective work practices and uses of the internet.
  3. How to balance imposition of standards of practice, incentive to use those practices voluntarily, and training support for those practices.
  4. Whether or not to use Moodle and/or W3 as part of our practice.
  5. How to deal with current problems until we establish the new set of practices.
  6. How to prevent people from becoming overwhelmed by the prospect of changes in C3 practice.

One suggestion was to focus on a relatively manageable set of practices as a starting point. For example, we might be able to use blogs, Rss, social book marking, wikis, a web-based calendar system and groups as either required or recommended for communication in the ELP.

For this to work, we may need to decide on which specific versions of these web services we want to adopt, such as Google groups, Google calendar, Wet paint, Delicious and Blogger. These may need to be situated within W3 in order to have ILC support. A recommended browser and other personal work environment (PWE) features may also be helpful or necessary.

Ideally we would try this all out within the C3 group first and then decide when and how to implement it throughout the ELP. This might take more time than we have before some problems need to be fixed, such as how to post PWT scores without violating student privacy.

When we feel that we have a solid enough idea of what we want to set up, we will contact ILC about meeting with us to see how best to proceed.

C3 minutes from 9/21/07

I've shared a document with you called "C3 minutes from 9/21/07":
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=df8mx5rb_4954gsqz&invite=nn26w9

It's not an attachment -- it's stored online at Google Docs. To open this document, just click the link above.
---

Owen pointed out that it would be much easier for you all to edit or add to my notes if they were accessible as a googledoc rather than a WORD attachment. I'm learning everyday!

Re: Minutes 9-21-07

Thanks for creating the minutes, Bill.

I felt we had a good discussion on many fundamental issues and was sorry
I had to slip out early.

I like the list of 5 things, and think it might be good to look at them
together on a computer screen in our next meeting.

I'm free at all of the listed times. I prefer to avoid Friday 1st, but
don't mind it if that is the best time for all.

Cheers,

Mark

Dear Naganuma-san,

Thank you very much for your hard work on this.  I would like to have the C3 group discuss this next Friday and then get back to you on what to do next.

Dear Admin Members,

Hello.
Otsukare sama deshita for the Admin Meeting.

As I reported in the meeting, we've been working on
improving the W3 ELP site where you could get information about
Sophomore Pre-Registration only now.
Here is the link of tentative page which was created by ILC staff,
Takakura san.
I would like you to have a look at it as an interim report although
many of them are without actual information.

http://w3.icu.ac.jp/people/ntakakura/elp_new/

These are information from what we usually post on the bulletin
board, plus
some links are from ELP subsite ( http://subsite.icu.ac.jp/elp/ )
which are supposed to
be internal information.
Although the titles are written in English, contents are going to be
Japanese mainly.

We would like to activate it in January so we have a certain months
to get used to it.
Also we need to talk to Sylvan about moving some links to W3
so that the subsite can be completely for outsiders.
Are there any we need to get an agreement from except for the
Directors and Sylvan?
Or, do you think it is better to talk about this including the
possible additional use of Moodle?
It is appreciated if you would let me know your idea.

Thank you so much.

Sincerely yours,

Kana Naganuma

Re: WebSlides Preview invitation

Dear C3,

I had just looked at Webslides as well, Trailfire is a different take, but this does look really interesting. I think I will go and have a look at Diigo (behind Webslides) again once they have released the new UI.

Also, our Agenda (and other group docs) could perhaps go to the C3 wiki, and the C3 wiki should be the same as the ELP wiki. Which wiki?

This raises the bigger issue of mapping out a design for the ELP information ecosystem. I think it is a priority we do this before the ELP Teachers' Site on Moodle takes on a life of its own.

I would like to show everyone my take on 23 Things that I have been working on. It could inform what the ELP information system looks like.

Best,

Owen

WebSlides Preview Invitation

Dear Diigo User,

I would like to invite you to preview an exciting new service we are developing. WebSlides is an incredibly easy way to convert your bookmarks to slideshows. You can experience WebSlides at slides.diigo.com. You can also see a fresh review here: WebSlides - Transforms Bookmarks Once Again

If you like what you see, I would appreciate if you can help get Webslides noticed by blogging, bookmarking and Digging! It is the appreciation by our users that keep us working day and night, and weekends too :-) .

Today, we are also showcasing Webslides in the LaunchSquad at the Office 2.0 Conference, held on Sept 6-7 in San Francisco, where Diigo is a Silver sponsor.

For the past 10 months, the entire Diigo team (now 10 people strong!) have been developing an exciting new version, which feature substantially improved user experience, and a slew of innovative and powerful functionalities.

Throughout this entire fall season, you should see us rolling out a lot more exciting stuff -- this is indeed a season of harvest for us. Stay tuned!
