My apologies for not being clearer on what I have been proposing. My draft email designed to give instructions for setting up the basic services was not intended to be a lighter version of Owen's excellent training materials. I was expecting to send his materials to each ELP person when they have completed set up of their Google and Delicious accounts on Firefox. If we proceed with that plan, I would like to send everyone a simplified version of Owen's materials along with access to the full version. Owen's suggestion of embedding the simple version in the fuller version seems fine to me, but we don't think we need to wait on getting people started setting up their accounts until these how to materials are completed.
Along the lines of providing more background information on social networking, especially as applied to education, I highly recommend that we include a link to a new on-line "book" called Learning 2.0 It is a longish .pdf file, and is something like a cross between a paper and a slide presentation that reads very quickly and has a good looking list of references at the end.

Dear C3ers,
A quick first reaction to how to proceed with the 'how to' materials:
1) Strategy: Let's not rush to send out something by Friday.
2) Time: We have two working versions of 'how to' information, lite & full. I think the lite version is a little too light at present, but could certainly be ready in fairly short time. On the other hand the full version needs a few hours more.
3) Format: The lite version should be embedded in the full version', perhaps in a highlighted text box. This simplifies things to the extent that there is only one 'how to' document.
4) Usability: I think with one embedded in the other, this very usefully allow users to work with the lite version on tasks they can bring existing skills and understanding to. And on more unfamiliar tasks, users can swap to the full version. This means that the way of working with the materials is left up to the user, which is a nice outcome I think.
5) Success: As well, the full version contains background that some people may want to start building a context for the things we are asking them to do, e.g. what is a social network?
More than two yen?

I've shared a document with you called "Beginning directions for the C3 plan":

It's not an attachment -- it's stored online at Google Docs. To open this document, just click the link above.

Here is a draft of an email I would like to send out to all ELP staff on Friday. Please let me know if you have any recommendations for improving it.
Thanks!
