Re: ELP 2.0 identity data (Google Docs)

Dear Bill,

  >I worked on the form option for populating the spreadsheet and then tested it. It works.  The only thing is that it appears that it would require an invitation to each ELP staff member -- that is, I don't know how to make it accessible to everyone as part of the set up instructions before they are invited to fill it out.

This is the same procedural hitch that I thought might be a problem.

> My solution is to ask people to notify me when they complete their set up and I can then send them an invitation to fill out the form using their Gmail identity.  Alternately, we can just go with the original simple request to have people email me their new Gmail and Delicious names and I will put them in the spreadsheet.

Unless I am missing something (which certainly could be), I think the current no email, details go straight into the spreadsheet, seems the most straightforward. Is there are problem I cannot see?

> I am also working through the rest of the instruction sheet to see if there are any problems.

Arigach! Is your wife busy today?!

Cheers,

Owen.

Dear C3ers,

This is more useful than the current identity data collecting document.

To satisfy privacy concerns, I recommend:
  • First names only (surnames can be added to in-house version later)
  • Email, include username only. This will thwart spammers email bots e.g. gedoc27@gmail.com
  • Delicious username is OK, it is public anyway
The data can be harvested as a spreadsheet in the same way the current form works, BUT new!, spreadsheets can now be used as a form. To see what I mean, in the spreadsheet, click 'share", then work through the screens that follow "to fill out a form". I played with this yesterday, but did not have enough time to work up a solution - it could probably work, but I am not sure it would be the easiest solution in this particular case.

I've shared a document with you called "ELP 2.0 identity data":

Hi,

I created this spreadsheet to populate with the Gmail, Delicious and
other data that we normally publish. I wasn't sure whether to make
this data public or not. I noticed that Owen has created a simpler
form, but one that may still be public. We need to decide on the
public/private question, but ultimately I think having the data in a
spreadsheet that can be sorted may be most helpful.

Let me know what you think.

Bill
