Re. Mark's suggestion: 2/27 is the end of the term. How do people feel about a meeting over soba 1/16 F? No afternoon classes.
Ged, thank you for getting back. I think I have caused a crucial misunderstanding. When I wrote, "And before any of that, can I recommend we all see this", I meant 'we', as in C3. This video would be the wrong thing to show ELP "to motivate" them, for all the reasons you mention.
It was shared only as more information for C3, to help inform us more about the (mostly) bottom-up shifts that are starting to redefine education for a connected world. My apologies for causing confusion.
Best,
Owen.

Owen,
I generally agree with what you've said below ... I just don't think the best way to do that is to antagonise the (very) small minority who are resistant to change ... and I think that is exactly what the video would do. I think the "revolution" you have started is going quite well ... at a pace and in a style that will not "frighten" anyone. Because of the syle and pace that C3 has adopted, we are now at a stage where most of the full-time staff are asking us for help in using technology better in their teaching ... and with that sort of groundswell of motivation, change will take place ... let's not jeopardize that by trying to push too hard or too quickly.
As for you being "deliberately controversial" ... it's not a tactic I have ever employed so I didn't pick up on it!!!

Hi Ged,
Perhaps....
But it prompts me to ask how rich is our program, how much does it challenge our students to create new knowledge?
e.g. ARW: Read this. Talk about it. Write about it. Do a test on it.
The same for every section. Every program. Year after year. For the last 20 years. It is a broken model and approaching irrelevance.
You know I am being deliberately controversial, but I think it is close to the truth.

Owen,
Just watched the video ... and found it unbelievably condescending ... I honestly don't think it would "motivate teachers to more effectively use technology" unless they were already interested in it. I really don't think we should send this out to ELP teachers from C3.
Cheers,

Dear 3Cers,
Do others think we should meet to confirm what it is we want to teach, check our understanding, check we all have the skills, and discuss how to teach these skills?
Then do the training.
And before any of that, can I recommend we all see this:
Description: Since most of today's students can appropriately be labeled as "Digital Learners", why do so many teachers refuse to enter the digital age with their teaching practices?
This presentation was created in an effort to motivate teachers to more effectively use technology in their teaching.
Although, in the ELP situation, the question it asks is perhaps a more fundamental one:
"Why do so many ELP teachers not know they urgently need to enter the digital age with their work practices?"
Even C3ers, do you you know that the OLN courses database is beautiful to use on an iPhone (& soon all good 'smart' phones)? This means now, for example, you can project materials in class from all ELP courses from your phone. The ELP, in your pocket, at a click.

I'll start contacting them soon. -Mark-----------------------------------------On 1/7/09, Bill Harshbarger <wcharshbarger@gmail.com> wrote:Here is a possible delegation of the 14 teachers who filled out the training questionnaire and requested mentors this term:

If this is acceptable, we could each contact our mentees to set up times. I'm also willing to do more than three people if anyone needs to lighten their load due to other obligations.
Owen, Is the "visions" link below supposed to have goals in it?
