Re: More follow up to our last meeting

Hi Bill and Mark,

I apologize profusely for my much delayed response.

Here's my quick feedback, for what it's worth.

1. I agree with Mark that the tip of the week article looks very useful.

2. I haven't filled out the Can Do list yet but I think the idea is very good and I will fill it out sometime very soon (though I have to admit that I'll probably have a much shorter list of WTs (willing to teach) than other C3ers, an issue I need to address myself).

3. I think the list of "mentee" groups that Mark has come up with looks good. I'm at least comfortable with my group, although I'm also willing to work with anyone else as needed. (I've been working with some of the RCA teachers about using G-docs for tutorial appointments, managing Google Groups, etc.)

4. I have no problem with the unveiling of the "helpicu" account.

See you in the ELP Meeting!

Hiroshi

2. I'm guessing we will get a clearer idea of how to develop and use the "Can Do" list as we support the staff we are in charge of. I'd be happy to work on it one more step, especially to add links to the list so that users can click on the skill and get more info about it.

3. Which staff we will work with - Just to get the discussion going, I guess one possible way is to tentatively divide by ARW programs and RCA floors and then swap members as needed. How does the following look?

Bill  RCA 2nd floor - Kota, Atsuko T, Kumi, Akiko, Asako
Hiroshi RCA 3rd floor - Mikiko, Masuko, Izumi, Atsuko
Ged  Prog. C ARW - Ken, Mike, Paul, Rob
Dave  Prog. B ARW - Susan, Steve, Lynn, Miguel, Jim, Rab
Mark  Program A ARW - Crystabel, Audrey, Chris Hale, Chris Hoskins, Sylvan

My group seems good to me, but I'm happy to mentor many of the RCA teachers on the 2nd floor too.

4. Unveiling helpicu / ihelpicu -- I think there is no problem to telling people about it, but I wonder if it may be a bit abstract for most people to understand? An email sent just before or after the announcement might be helpful to show in writing what it can be used for and lead people to try it and poke around.

Hi again,

1. Here is a revised draft of the first C3 tip of the week blog we talked about starting:

This is the first posting of what we plan to be a regular (roughly weekly) series of tips, suggestions and helpful ideas related to the ELP C3 Plan. It will also serve as a place where all members of the ELP can post related comments or questions.  Each new post will automatically be sent out as an email to the ELP googlegroup.  If you want to comment on the posts, or ask questions.  Please visit the blog at http://elpc3news.blogspot.com/

Tip of the week on using Gmail: check out this link to the Gmail ninja site that Rab has included in the CM course materials this term.  It has good tips for everyone from  the novice (white belt) to the Gmail Master (imagine a cross between Rab and Yoda).

Thanks,

C3

2.  I haven't received any feedback on the proposed "I can do list" (see minutes of our last meeting) except from Mark.  Do we want to go forward with this either as a personal checklist we use with people we work with or as a public spreadsheet as Mark has proposed?

3. Is anyone interested in taking on the job of deciding on which ELP staff we will work with?

4. I would like to officially unveil "helpicu" at the ELP meeting on 9/29.  Does anyone object to that and or have suggestions on how best to do it?

Thanks!

Bill

Thanks, Mark.  The blog-googledoc link is a great suggestion for managing the tips.  Hope you had a good dinner.  Watch out for bears, though!

I think any group sessions we do ought to tend to be voluntary, have a self-access component for those who cannot make it,and ought to have quite specific themes such as "Overcoming GoogleDoc Phobia with 7 Useful Tips"

I'd be happy to contribute to the weekly tips too. If we make a C3 tips blog and make the ICU ELP group take an RSS email from all new posts, then we'd be making a C3 help resource site and doing a newletter at the same time. I think it will be very helpful!

Hi,

In talking to Ged this morning I was reminded that we should probably create a number of approaches to moving our plan forward.  Here is a list of some things that we could do:

1.Small group mentoring (as we discussed in the meeting Tuesday).
2.Drip, drip, drip (= on-going reminders from all of us as we participate in various other committees, teaching groups, etc.)
3.Find or make some opportunities to discuss basic issues (e.g. why should we share our materials?) rather than just focusing on tools and techniques.
4.Start a "C3 tip of the week" email posting (also tagged of course).  I would be happy to do this, but would appreciate suggestions for tips from all of you.

How does this sound to the rest of you?
