Thanks for your leadership of the group over the years, Bill. I enjoyed working together with you and everyone on C3 and learned a tremendous amount. Google tools have definitely taken off in the ELP and that is leading to increased ease of collaboration. Encouraging people to do Delicious tagging for the archive is the next step, and I want to keep helping department members with that.

Dear C3 members,

As we near the end of the academic year, and the end (at least for now) of C3 as a distinct NTD group, I wanted to thank you all for your hard work, good will and great ideas.

This looks very good to me. My only comment is whether we should remind everyone about how to tag sites and googledocs in Delicious so that they can contribute to the Reader. Maybe that can be a follow-up newsletter article?

That looks very good, Bill. Nice tips! I didn't know about the landscape issue.

I don't see any need for revision, but it may be good to add something about what to do when the Print button does not respond. This seems to occur sometimes (Is it just me?), so what I do is go to Print Settings and click Print from there. That usually (though not always) seems to solve it. I added a 3rd point below about that.

For ideas on future articles, I would say...we did Gmail and Gdocs, so next could be something on GReader or Delicious, sort of a refresher on how Delicious plays a role in our system. I'd be happy to work something up if that seems good.

Also, are we set for mentor/mentee groups?

I apologize profusely for my much delayed response.

Here's my quick feedback, for what it's worth.

1. I agree with Mark that the tip of the week article looks very useful.

2. I haven't filled out the Can Do list yet but I think the idea is very good and I will fill it out sometime very soon (though I have to admit that I'll probably have a much shorter list of WTs (willing to teach) than other C3ers, an issue I need to address myself).

3. I think the list of "mentee" groups that Mark has come up with looks good. I'm at least comfortable with my group, although I'm also willing to work with anyone else as needed. (I've been working with some of the RCA teachers about using G-docs for tutorial appointments, managing Google Groups, etc.)

4. I have no problem with the unveiling of the "helpicu" account.

I'm not sure who is involved with the RCA new teachers orientation meeting at 3:30 on the 1st, but if none of us C3ers are, then we could meet after the main ELP meeting around 2:30 or 3.

Hi Bill & C3ers,

On their own computer skills are not very important, because C3 is really not about computers, it is much more about enhancing teaching and learning as a social activity. That said though, if Jim is interested in such use of social technologies, his skills could certainly be mined. However, five is also a very effective size for a working group.

ELP C3: 'Working Agenda 4/21/09

* Network teaching and learning. Two essential ingredients: 1) Personal Learning Environments 2) E-portfolios.

Connections. Learning/teaching as a social activity. ELP = Distributed learning environment. Reforms that reform must involve reconfiguring the underlying structures and processes of the ELP, in other words 'how' work is done. Reform built on existing structures and systems will create a shinier version of an inefficient, outdated model; a Prius, when what we really need is a hovercraft. Reform needs to be about building such an organisation: one that can go quickly in any direction and travel well over any terrain - a dynamic organisation for dynamic times.

Hi,

Although we won't be able to meet until next week, I would like to give a bit of a report at the meeting tomorrow. Based on some ideas from Owen and my own thoughts, I have done up a draft of a short report. Any suggestions for improvements to the draft would be appreciated. I'm good at 10am on the 7th. How are your schedules, Owen and Ged?

I guess we have two times up for decision, 3/31 2pm and 4/7 10am. If meeting on 3/31 to prepare an announcement for 4/1 seems better, then we could meet without Dave, but if 4/7 is OK for everyone, meeting all together sounds best.

In any case, I'm flying back from Denver tomorrow. See you all soon!

Congratulations on the reopening of the abattoir. I can't wait to visit ;-)

I'm still good for the 31st 2pm. But actually the 7th would be better for me schedule-wise. On the 31st I'll just be back from Denver and busy with some coordinating work for ASP.

Googlegroup management

Hi,

A little while ago, we decided to both include "helpicu" as a member of all googlegroups we use in the ELP and to make helpicu a manager of all groups. This will allow on-going management of the groups regardless of staffing changes over the years. Currently, helpicu is a manager of these groups:

LRB
ELP C3
AASP
ICU ASP
ELP Admin
CS
C&A
ICU ELP

It is a member, but not a manager of:

ARW Teachers Program A
ARW Teacherws Program B
RCA Teachers

I think there may be other groups out there, (like PR?) of which helpicu is not yet a member.

I would like to add new teachers to the appropriate groups, but won't be able to do that until helpicu is made a manager of all groups.
